Does the new school year have you feeling depresso and in need of some espresso? Whether or not you have an appreciation for bad puns, people can find a lot of joy within a good cup of coffee. If this sounds like your cup of coffee, look no further. Local Fixture, a fine goods shop in Uptown Whittier, has now added a coffee bar to their establishment.
I'm sure you're already reaching for your car keys, but wait: there's more. Local Fixture is not just a pit stop for a caffeine fill up; they have everything from children's toys to organic soaps to books with the best dirty jokes (yes, I bought that one). Now, I know what you're probably thinking, "Coffee, children's toys, organic soaps and dirty books? What kind of place is this?" It is the perfect cool new shop (with the tastiest iced mocha) that you've been looking to explore.
I — as I'm sure many of you — enjoy walking around in Uptown Whittier looking for new places to discover. This familiar situation is precisely how Whittier College sophomore Meghan Pistolesi discovered Local Fixture. The new Local Fixture employee stumbled upon this hidden gem walking around Uptown with her friends. After having been employed for almost a month, Pistolesi has nothing but praise to offer the shop. "I love it," Pistolesi admits. "The employees that I work with are the most down to earth and nice people I've ever met. All the customers that come in [are great]. I've never had a customer come in in a bad mood. Everyone is just so happy and very welcoming and warm. Everyone there is always in a good mood."
However, college students are not the only ones who can enjoy an afternoon at Local Fixture. the store targets all demographics wit hits versatility. "Honestly, with what the store sells, they are looking to accommodate to everyone," Pistolesi said. "How I see it is that it's a gift store where you can buy anything for anyone. They have things from wedding gifts to baby gifts to interesting funny books and just quirky gift ideas." I can certainly attest to this. I found myself rummaging around the store for hours and while I was delighted when I left my wallet certainly was not.
The coffee doesn't disappoint either. "The coffee bar has only been there for about three months," Pistolesi explained. "They actually went and hired all new employees and asked that they were not trained in any kind of coffee making because they wanted to train them from the beginning and teach then from the ground up how they expected things to be. They took them all down to downtown L.A. to get fully trained, so everyone there completely knows what they're doing."
If that alone is not enough to lure you to their front door, they feature gourmet donuts from Donut Snob every Friday and Saturday, as well. Clearly if you are a donut, coffee, or knick-knack lover, this is the place for you. So stop procraffeinating and head down to Local Fixture today.
