As Spring semester comes to an end, Summer vacation is about to begin. What better way to spend it than to see the upcoming superhero blockbusters? Whether you are a Marvel or DC fan, this Summer will be a mix of both universes. Brace yourself for a season filled with action, heroes, and Stan Lee cameos. Here are some of the films that will be released:

Wonder Woman
The Amazonian warrior princess is finally hitting the big screen on June 2 in the film Wonder Woman. After making an appearance in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Princess Diana, portrayed by Gal Godot, will now star in her own movie. The plot revolves around her helping a lost pilot (portrayed by Chris Pine) fight in World War I and against Ares, the God of War.  Many fans are excited about this film because it will be one of the first films that features a female superhero in the lead role directed by a female for DC Comics. Mashable reporter Anne-Marie Tomchak interviewed director Patty Jenkins in her article “Behind the scenes of the new badass, blockbuster ‘Wonder Woman’” about what she hopes for the film. “I want everyone to feel like they’re Wonder Woman when they see this film. It’s the story of someone discovering their power and their decision to do good with it. That’s universal. We all come of age, so that’s the dream.” The fact that this film film that is all about female empowerment and showing a breakthrough for female superheroes is the main reason why I am looking forward to watching it.

Spider-Man Homecoming
Prepare yourselves, because Spidey is returning to the big screen on July 7, this time with a brand new Spider-Man, portrayed by Tom Holland, who made his debut in Captain America: Civil War. The new movie, Spider-Man Homecoming, features Peter Parker returning home and trying to adjust to his new life as a superhero. In this film, the beloved Iron Man, a.k.a Tony Stark, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., will be Spider-Man’s superhero mentor to help him defeat Vulture. For this film, I really look forward to seeing how Holland is going to make this Spider-Man more significant than Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man roles. I predict that there will be more of a comedic teen vibe to this Spidey than in past Spider-Man films. Overall, this will be an interesting film to see a new side of Spider-Man.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
On May 4, our favorite galactic criminal group is back in its upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This time around, Star-Lord, (portrayed by Chris Pratt) is on a mission to find out his true origins and defend the galaxy from the evil Collector and Gamora’s evil sister, Nebula. There are so many things that I am looking forward to in this movie. First off: the debut of baby Groot. After seeing a little dose of baby Groot in the ending credits of the first movie and now in the trailers, this adorable little tree has stolen my heart, besides dreamy Chris Pratt. The other thing I am excited for is Quill’s mixtape. The first Guardians of the Galaxy mixtape, “Awesome Mix Vol.1,” was filled with nostalgic hit tunes from the ‘70s through the ‘90s. I really hope that the music will still consist of more songs that bring good vibes and can fit perfectly throughout the film.
