Wingstop or (don’t be a chicken):
Every Monday and Tuesday, the grizzled veterans of Whittier College shake their heads and cluck knowingly at their fellow first-year students. Many out-of-towners are unaware of the potential feast that they can indulge in — and that’s precisely how devious students in-the-know want to keep it. Wingstop offers a myriad of wing options for only 60 cents a piece. Such selections include hickory smoked BBQ, lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, mango habanero, Louisiana rub, etc. Customers can purchase a 10-piece meal of wings for under $9. Simply add some blue cheese dip on the side, and you’ve got yourself a winner-winner-chicken dinner! Wingstop is located at 13345 Telegraph Rd.

Are you pho real?
Pho Whittier is home to some of the best pho around town. Specializing in traditional Vietnamese cuisine, the restaurant offers a variety of different beef, chicken, seafood, and plain noodle soups. For under $10, Pho Whittier is comparable in price to the Pho & Roll restaurant over in Uptown, but the quality of their broth is — in this writer’s personal opinion — far superior. The restaurant also serves broken rice plates, vermicelli noodles, and a highly underappreciated báhn mi sandwich. This is an excellent location for students looking into an affordable yet stylish date night with friends or a significant other. Of course, it is perfectly acceptable to walk in by yourself! Pho Whittier is located at 8426 Laurel Avenue, right next to the Quad.

Taco Wednesday
Taco Tuesday is a thing of the past! Why not try out Taco Wednesday with one of Tacos Baja’s dollar fish tacos? That’s right! For only one dollar, on Wednesday nights, you can enjoy the delicious taste of a fish taco (or two, or three). Students who brave the terribly long line for their meal will be greeted by a specialized taco-making team adept at — you guessed it, serving customers some of the greatest and cheapest fish tacos, period. Things will go quite swimmingly for a hungry student on the prowl for a sea shanty here in our own Whittier. Tacos Baja is located at 13320 Whittier Blvd.

El Atacor.
No list would be complete without this fabled and sacred location. Home of the infamous carne asada fries, El Atacor is a taqueria that is open 24/7. If you’re craving a meal after typical business hours, this is your ace-in-the-hole. El Atacor comes equipped with a menu capable of taking down an entire football team — from tacos to taquitos, burritos to super-burritos, sopes to nachos, and everything in between! El Atacor is a premier example of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, complete with all the fixings. They are located at 11156 Whittier Boulevard.
