Appreciation not appropriation at Asian Night

Many Poets gathered in the campus courtyard for Asian Night on Friday, April 13. The event was organized by the Asian Student Association (ASA), led by the club’s Event Coordinator third-year Amanda Lane.  There were performances from a variety of Asian cultures, including Chinese dragon dancers from University of California Los Angeles, Japanese Taiko drummers, Polynesian dancing and drumming, and Bollywood dancing. ASA aims to educate members of the Whittier College community on the traditions of Asian cultures to avoid cultural appropriation and to promote inclusivity and celebration.  The event was incredibly successful and brought together many students from different backgrounds to learn about other cultures.
