It was disappointing to see that two critical facts were omitted: First, the reason behind the worker furloughs — a reduction in the College’s cleaning frequency requirements for all administrative areas from 5 x week to 1 x week. Second, an explanation that the cleaning time expectations are within industry standards and were evaluated by an objective third party expert, who advised the College on budgeting for the best value possible in the area of Facilities Services, including Maintenance/Repair, Landscape and Custodial.
While it is understandable that the paper has limited space, the omission of these important facts allowed for the impression that the housekeepers’ complaints were “not of concern” to Flagship and does not explain the reason for the furloughs in the first place.
